Nokia Corp. said Monday that it has signed a new cross-license patent agreement with Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. following the expiry of a previous agreement at the end of 2022.
The Finnish telecommunications-equipment company said the agreement covers its fundamental inventions in 5G and other technologies, with Samsung to make payments to Nokia for a multiyear period from Jan. 1, 2023.
Financial terms weren’t disclosed.
Nokia’s has spent over 130 billion euros ($141.13 billion) in research and development since 2000 and has a portfolio of around 20,000 patent families, including more than 4,500 patent families declared essential to 5G, it said.
